By His Own Blood is a skillfully written book about a young boy growing up on a farm in 1950s-60s rural West Texas. It is a story about a family’s enduring love and bond during times of hardship and times of joy. And most of all, it is a story about a boy growing into a man under the guiding hand of a strong, but gentle and loving father. The book is full of amusing nostalgic stories as well as very serious thought-provoking stories. You will find yourself laughing out loud one minute and searching for a Kleenex the next. This book is one of those that you just cannot put down until the last page is read. And when you finally lay the book down, you realize that it was actually a love story, a story about the intense love between a father and his son.” --- Stan Compton

Stan, I know you related to much of the book because you were out there on the farm during some of those years we grew up together. You were there that evening when Gene killed the rattlesnake that was being charmed by our cat. The things we remember, huh. Thanks for the nice comments about the book, Stan. I appreciate all your support. John

Johnny....I didn't realize you lost your dad by such an unnecesary way.  I think it's great that you have shared the story with others.  Toni said to pass on her regards, and please give Karen a hug for me.
